pen on paper, after da Vinci

a continuing of my interest in copying the works of da Vinci, initially inspired by a visit to the british museum where i was able to spend time drawing from a couple of da Vinci's actual silver point works on paper, not prints in a book. it made all the difference in the world.

These look great!

What was the difference between a print and the real thing?

thanks!

the difference...well, part of it was knowing that i was sitting right in front of something that was hundreds of years old. and then there was the fact that da Vinci's hands had been on that paper. that all those marks were a direct index of da Vinci's presence. and then i could see the texture of the paper, and the texture of the marks in the light. it was an experience, you know? that i got to have some of da Vinci's actual drawings all to myself for a couple hours.
